Its 4:25am and I haven't been to sleep yet. We have to get on the road to St. Louis in an hour because I have a flight out this morning and we have 2 hours to drive first. What a great show! Marty was in a very silly, loosened-up mood. He was just throwing himself all over the place with reckless abandon and just had fun with it. He pulled a little boy (maybe 6 or 7 years old) up onstage and danced with him. Very cute. But it was a mostly adult show since it was a very late show. There were 3 opening bands ( La....something....can't quite remember it totally, Pierpoint, and We are the Fury) and LH went on at 11:30pm. Marty was very talkative between songs and making all sorts of exaggerated, crazy faces. The crowd was not packed, unfortunately, but it was a great crowd in terms of energy. They did Sky is Falling again, and a great cover of Rockin' in the Free World. I'm so tired so I'm not focusing well but the show was great.
Meet & greet was cancelled

So afterwards, me and Stephanie and Susie went to a nearby bar. We had one drink, Marty came in & was immediately surrounded by people, and then the bar closed! They can't serve alcohol after 1am in MO so there isn't much to do late at night....later we saw Marty on the street and he lamented the fact that he couldn't really hang out and have some drinks on their night off. It was really stupid...1am? That's just ridiculous. But that's neither here nor there.
Great show. Lots of fun.

I am glad that the show rocked, Gina. Too bad the crowd was not bigger. I wish that I could have gone there from Indy. It was great to meet you. That sucks that things closed so early. It was a Saturday night, for cryin out loud, not a weeknight. :? I'm glad that you had a great time though! :D

Let's see what I can add to Gina's review. The first band was LaPush. They are from St. Louis. They were really good. Bought their CD. They all signed it for me. The drummer was in back, and they actually went to go get him for me. The bassist had grown a mustache since their photo was taken for the liner notes, and he drew one in. :) Pierpoint is a Columbia band. I was kinda surprised they didn't have more people there supporting them. They can usually sell out a show on their own. We Are the Fury was also really good. They seemed excited about getting to play so many shows with the guys. Bought their CD, too.
I am bad at remembering the song order, but they opened with This Town. I was surprised. I am so used to them opening with The Tunnel or Ultrasound. Next was Call of Distress, then Ultrasound. (I'm clear on those because I had a cellcert to give). Next I'm not sure, but they played My Eyes Can't See, The Clinic, The Riddle, The Tunnel, Trees, Wish You Were Here (Marty played acoustic), Paint It Black, Rockin' In the Free World, Ring of Fire, and Sky is Falling. These are not in order. Stephanie got a set list and I'm sure she'll probably post later. I'm not sure if I am missing anything.
About the 5th song in Marty wanted to play acoustic but they were having trouble with the sound. So he scrapped it. He told a bunch of stories. I think that was when he told the story about how they were at a get together eating spaghetti squash, having a few drinks. After dinner, Marty went into the basement as was working on a riff. He called the guys down and said he had the beginning of a great song. They just kind of laughed at him. Later they brought Billy into the mix and thus the Tunnel was born.
They pulled the little boy up for the Sky is Falling. He was so excited. Marty held one of his hands and danced around with him on stage. I saw the little boy after the show and told him he was a big star now. He just said I know! I asked him if he had fun and he said Yeah! His eyes were huge and he was just glowing. Marty really made his night!
Marty hopped down into the crowd (using my shoulder for support as he jumped from the stage- whew!) and ran up the stairs to the balcony. I can't remember what song they were playing though. Another time, he climbed the amps to the top of the speakers and sang up there for a while.
He told a little story about how when he arrived at the Blue Note he just kind of wandered around and checked everything out. He was thrilled to be playing in a club that had hosted such legends as Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash. He said he was amazed at the posters from past shows and all the stickers on the backdoor with all the modern day bands that they enjoy listening to.
Billy wore the pimp daddy hat again, and Marty took it for a little while during one of the songs. Billy didn't seem to mind this time.
Marty's brother in law was in the crowd. He thanked him for coming and told him how great it was to have family there. He played Rockin' In the Free World then, saying that his brother in law was a huge Neil Young fan.
They didn't do an encore persay. Marty went into this long speech (hilarious) about how he hated that bands did this because we all knew they were coming back out, and that the roadies always had to pretend to be picking stuff up, polish the mic stand, etc. Billy started polishing the mic stand and his guitar with his shirt. He said that they usually go in back and blow dry their hair, change into a new outfit, fix their mascara, and something to the effect that he didn't know why. They he said he wouldn't have minded having a new outfit. Everyone was laughing and applauding. Dino came up to the mic and said that what Marty didn't understand was that the real reason for an encore was to give them 5 minutes to take a piss break. So, they decided that they were just going to keep playing. Oh, I just realized I forgot a song in my previous listing. They did Straight As An Arrow, too. I can't remember for sure what songs were during this continuous encore time, but that was one, I think that's when they did Ring of Fire, too. They did about 4 more songs during that time. After they left the stage, we tried to get them to come back out, and I know I was thinking they might because they left the lights down for about 5 minutes (it might have been longer), but then I saw Randy tell them pull up the lights and that was it.
There was supposed to be a formal M&G, but it got cancelled. It had gotten changed at the start of the night. I'm not sure if that was the Blue Note or the band. If it was the band, I will totally understand. They had to be exhausted.
There were no cameras allowed. This was the band's request. If you read back in other show's reviews, you'll probably know why. I was actually kinda glad, but many people still brought them in. The Blue Note was cool about those they found though and just checked them in their coat check area.
At the merchandise area, the guys were selling the wristbands, the pink Trees shirt, the white Get Live Tour shirt, and white undies with Lovehammers in black and a red heart on the butt. All of the opening bands, but Pierpoint were selling their CD's and tshirts.
As far as the care package I had for the guys, I swung by the Blue Note about 3:30-4 pm after some last ditch street teaming on campus to try to talk to the owner. I hadn't been able to get a hold of him all day. The doors were locked when I got there, but who was in the lobby wearing his white pants? Marty. I think they had just gotten in to town. He was on the phone. I tapped on the door to see if there were Blue Note people around, but no one was. They opened their box office at 5:30, so I just went back then. I talked to the girl at the counter. I really should remember her name, but I don't . I'm sorry if you read the boards. She is the one I was always talking to about ticket sales and giving extra flyers and ST stuff to. Anyway, she got TBone for me and he said he would give the package to the guys. There wasn't huge response from the Boards. Thanks to Melody in NJ for contributing though! But, I did get a ton of stuff for them. I asked TBone if they were there now. I told him I had some local area stuff in the bag that they might want to look at before they went to eat. He said they had just left. He sent toem next door to Trattoria Strata Nova. Great choice! I knew they had today off though so the info could still come in handy. I checked with Marty right after the show and he said he got the package. He shook my hand and thanked me for it. Then he told me they were all going to On the Rocks, another bar. We headed down there and sat at the bar. Marty came down about 10 minutes later with his family. He was immediately swarmed, like Gina said. I was really proud of her group and my group for being that way. You could tell he just wanted to talk with his family. Sorry those of you that did swarm him. Not trying to offend, just feeling a little bad for Marty. It was already last call when we got there. Marty only had about 5 minutes in the bar before they started kicking everyone out. He didn't know where to go. His family was getting ready to leave. It looked like an ok time to approach him. I had my front page from Memphis and asked him to sign it. He asked me if I had a pen. I didn't. I apologized. I told him there were a bunch back in that bag, but it wasn't a big deal. I would just have him sign it in KC if that was ok. He said definitely. So, hubby and I walked back to the Blue Note. I also had my daughter's drum sticks. We had thought about taking her to the show, but she woke up with a stomach bug and decided against it. So we grabbed her sticks and thought we'd have Bobby autograph them for her. He was really sweet about it. He signed both of them, after asking me if I wanted them both signed or just one. I told him it didn't matter it was up to him. He said, "NO, it's up to you." So sweet! He signed a ticket stub for her in Memphis, too. She was really excited this morning when she got them. Thanks Bobby!!! After that, we noticed that one of our board friends had imbibed a little much. We went back to the corner of the street where Marty was hanging with fans. He never made it back to the Blue Note until much later. We were just wanting to make sure that they got back to the hotel ok. We ended up in a group photo. STing a couple of guys who had never heard of the band, but ended up walking back (yet again) to the Blue Note with us all. Sometime during that walk, Marty gave me a hug and thanked me again for the care package and shook my husband's hand, too. We just hung back and waited to see if our board friends needed a ride. Dino came out to load up the van. I went over and thanked him for flicking the pick my way. He asked, "So you got it?" I told him yes. Then he told me how tired he was and that he just wanted to go to bed. I just said something about how I didn't know how they do it so many shows in a row with all that travel. I kept it short. Got hubby, and we decided to go. The friends said they could make it back to their hotel ok. I hope they did.
I think that's everything. At least everything I can remember. It was a long night. Probably 2:30 before we left.
It was definitely a different feel from previous shows I had attended. I was disappointed that the show didn't have more ticket sales, but I really did ST my ass off. I think there was just too much going on in town with students just getting back, a garage band concert at one of the parking garages, a renaissance festival, and who knows what else. But like all shows, I can't stop reliving/think about it all!

Ok, I forgot some stuff. They also played Hold On. And, Marty quipped about the name of the band. They ARE a band - Lovehammers. That is what they should be called. The label made them put the Marty Casey out front, but the band as whole is what it's all about. He also joked about wanting to always say THE Lovehammers, and that Dino and Bobby - 2 crazy greeks - just don't like the word THE. He didn't know why. Dino was just giggling away when he talked about that.
And, they kept givign props to Randy. I love when they do that!

Hey Rachel,
I'm so sorry I didn't talk to you sooner. I ended up staying in Indy, so I missed this show. So glad you had a great time. Not gonna make it to KC either. Are you going to Urbana? I'll be at that one.
Funny about the THE in Loverhammers. At Indy he said they hadn't earned the THE yet. That maybe someday they can be called THE Lovehammers. It was all very funny.
Anyway, have fun in KC.

Rachel, it was really nice meeting you. I work at a university so I understand how crazy and jam-packed those first few weeks of school are. Sounds like a case of bad timing but at least the crowd gave them lots of energy and love. Good job with your street teaming! Stephanie (from St. Louis) and I gave them a care package in Indy so it sounds like they got some good care from the fans this weekend

See you at a future show

Taxe- It's ok. I figured that happened. I think I'm going to KC alone though. Hubby has meeting in morning. Glad you all had fun in Indy. Read your review.
Gina - campus is crazy. I'm swamped today. It was a great crowd even if it was smaller. I'm glad they got a few care packages, too. I saw some girls after the show bring them some stuff to the back door, too. It really sucks about them getting robbed. Those women are the worst! Great to meet you, too. Sorry we didn't get to talk more.

Rachel, I'm sure that won't be the last time we meet

The robbery thing is awful but hopefully they have already some of it through donations. I'm glad some others were giving them stuff too in Columbia. That's awesome. Surely they must be feeling the love!

Hey I was at The Blue Note that night. Concert was great, love hammers rock.
New to the site so bear with me, I was waiting for a cab about 2 am in front of The Blue Note when Marty appeared on a street corner about a block away.
He had came out of the alley with his brother in law earlier, but showed up at the corner later that night. Wasnt sure he wanted company at first-but fans started to gather around and take pictures. I decided I have been to two concerts and not been allowed to take a picture so I am going to go ask Marty if I can take a picture of him(rest of band was not with him). As I approached the small crowd there were several around him. He looked up and said Did you need something? I ask to take the picture and he said he
didnt take pictures alone, so he put his arm around me-then looked at my shirt (it was a picture of Jim Morrison laying on stage passed out) marty said
I can be Jim Morrison-then laid at my feet on the street corner for the picture
Anyone around can attest I almost passed out! The camera would not work!
Had to go get hubby to make camera work (was so upset). We went back
and got another picture with Marty(standing this time). Then Marty said that
didnt take, told my hubby to come closer-another fan ask if she could take picture of all three of us, to which my husband said No my wife loves Marty!
Could have died-Except it is the truth. Third picture turned out great and now sets proudly on my desk at work. Marty was great though the whole thing shook hands with my husband told him his shirt was cool and our taxi then decided to show up almost two hours late. Taxi driver ask who tall blonde was I told her and she said she brought him there that day and ask if she should know him. Told her he was a Rock Star and yes everyone should know him.
She said he kept telling her he sang about trees. Ha Ha Was great night.
